Tisha Campbell

Tisha Campbell is an American actress and singer born on October 13, 1968, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She began her entertainment career at a young age, making her film debut in the 1986 rock musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors.” Campbell gained widespread recognition for her role as Gina Waters-Payne on the Fox comedy series “Martin” (1992–1997) and as Janet “Jay” Marie Johnson-Kyle on the ABC series “My Wife and Kids” (2001–2005), earning an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for the latter.

In addition to her television and film work, Campbell has pursued a music career, releasing her debut album “Tisha” in 1993. She has also appeared in films such as “School Daze” (1988), “Boomerang” (1992), and “Sprung” (1997). Her recent television appearances include roles in “Dr. Ken” (2015–2017), “Outmatched” (2020), and “Uncoupled” (2022).

Campbell was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She attended Newark Arts High School and is the eldest of four children. Her mother, Hattie “Mona” Washington, was a nurse, talent manager, gospel singer, and vocal coach, while her father, Clifton Campbell, was a factory worker, singer, and chess master who worked with underprivileged children.

In 1996, Campbell married actor Duane Martin, with whom she has two sons. The couple divorced in December 2020 after 24 years of marriage.
